Creation process:
My point of view and experience
I draw inspiration intuitively for creation.
From imagination, dreams, meditations, and the silence dedicated to the creative moment, I see and hear concrete or subtle elements that provide the spark or leitmotif for the musical work to be created. These elements may be images or words, melodic or rhythmic motifs, or even sonic textures that accompany a melody yet to emerge.
Of course, and although it seems magical—in part, it is—these visual or sonic images have visited my life previously in some of my experiences, some of which I have consciously forgotten. They also stem from the daily practice of music that I play, listen to, teach, perform, sing, etc., or from the visual artworks that linger in my mind after seeing and enjoying them—or not—or savoring them imaginatively.
Personally, I believe that creation is a discipline to which one must dedicate space in life, as it is a part of existence. Creative processes are numerous and diverse, applicable to everyday or sublime matters, work-related challenges, conflict resolution, decision-making, or simply enjoying the present moment.
It is likely that anyone who has approached the artistic creative process—whether by playing a musical instrument, singing, writing, drawing, painting, reading, or making a consistent practice of visiting museums, galleries, or live concerts across different trends and genres—may intuit the compositional process and the one needed to navigate the path of daily existence in the physical realm, especially if one wishes to avoid boredom. This approach requires a degree of physical and mental isolation to grasp the essence of the process.
Overcoming the fear of solitude is essential to developing our capacity for self-knowledge and, subsequently, the ability to create a fulfilling life.
